Town Hall | Flower Mound, Texas
Project completed by Andrew Oxley while serving as Principal at a previous firm.
Displaying the idea of public first in civic design, the concept provides open public space more formally on the front as a courtyard and also an informal backyard and patio on the opposite side. The lobby serves as overflow for larger meetings and is connected to both the front courtyard and back patio. The council chambers allows natural light in the space symbolizing transparency while doing so via upper clerestory windows to maintain security. The building includes expansion space within the completed footprint by way of a strategy to decrease physical storage needs and transitioning those areas to office space within each department.
The project serves the community by providing multiple areas for public assembly as well as providing transparency into the running of the local government. The lobby has an art display wall where local artists can display their work. The open space in front of the building can be used by residents for a number of purposes.
